Akron-Summit County Public Library

At Construction Resources Inc., we pride ourselves on offering cutting-edge solutions to our client's problems. Recently, we had the Akron-Summit County Public Library engage CRI to analyze and design repairs to a plaza deck leaking water into basement and subbasement levels as part of the original headquarters footprint.

The original Library Building has a west-side plaza deck that is outboard of the first-floor footprint but is over the basement-level occupied space. The plaza had a brick paver overburden on a waterproofed structural concrete deck. The basement was experiencing leaks and had concrete that was water damaged, with steel reinforcement spalling the structural concrete from the past water leaks. CRI analyzed the conditions and recommended removal of the overburden, repairs to damaged structural concrete on the top and bottom sides of the structural deck, installation of a new waterproofing system, installation of new plaza deck drains and drainpipes that tied into the City storm lines, and a new overburden of crystalline-waterproofed concrete to replace the brick pavers. The project was awarded under budget. CRI observed construction daily, conducted weekly project meetings, and administered the contract administrative items for the Owner. The project was a success for the Owner. By providing a plan with close attention to detail, the library was able to have a practical solution that would last them for years to come.

"The depth of knowledge of Bud Griffith and the staff at CRI is excellent and was demonstrated in all the design documents and throughout the restoration project.  They always had answers and often more than one option for the Owner.  I was well educated throughout the process and dealing with the contractor was considerably easier "
